Ali Barter

From the heart-stirring catharsis brought on by the anthems of her youth, to her own candid musical outpourings today, Melbourne solo musician Ali Barter understands a thing or two about capturing frank, sometimes messy emotions in memorable song form.

Her much-anticipated debut album “A Suitable Girl” is the result of this. A new generation of music fans get something they need now perhaps more than ever – a voice that says simply and authentically “I get it.” Ali Barter is that voice.

With its bold, burning rallying cry and wry lyrics on gender expectations, Ali hit the ground running with her track ‘Girlie Bits’, which quickly found itself being blasted in thousands of bedrooms across the country, allowing Ali to make her triple j Hottest 100 debut at #58 for 2016. Last year year also saw Ali tour with the likes of City Calm Down, The Jezabels and The Rubens and sell-out headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

If ever there was a more auspicious time for a body of work to make its mark on the world, A Suitable Girl’s time is now. Taking its name from Vikram Seth’s novel, A Suitable Boy, the album is also about the power of self-acceptance. Ali Barter has garnered media support from the likes of triple j, The Sydney Morning Herald & The Age, The Music, Junkee Media, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, The AU Review, and community radio across the country, and many more.
